Mindfulness Skills for Pregnancy

Pregnancy, childbirth, and early motherhood can be both challenging and rewarding. There are rapid changes in your body, your lifestyle, your relationships, your work, and even your very identity. Mindfulness, as a way of being, is a heartfelt way to gently meet the thoughts, feelings, and situations you will be faced with in pregnancy, in birth, and in motherhood.

MINDFULNESS SKILLS CAN BE LEARNED AND PRACTICED TO:

  • Help prepare you to meet the challenges of pregnancy and mothering
  • Improve your ability to deal with stress and difficult moods
  • To get less caught up in negative thinking patterns
  • Be more available to the pleasurable moments and deep joy that motherhood can bring.

This introductory series for pregnancy is held over 4 weeks. You will be learning mindful awareness in several ways; sitting, walking, breathing, and body awareness meditations, mindful movement, discussion, and readings. Home practice between sessions is encouraged.

Facilitated by Sandy Wood, a Nurse Midwife of UVMMC with experience in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Skills for pregnancy and postpartum.
