She is the founder and owner of Evolution Prenatal and Family Yoga Center in Burlington, Vermont and co-founder of Evolution Physical Therapy and Yoga. Through her work as director of Evolution Yoga from 2006-2015, Susan has established herself as a deeply respected leader in our local prenatal, postpartum, and parenting circles. She is a wealth of knowledge and information for pregnant families and a compassionate, gentle voice of support for mothers.
Susan has had the honor of supporting over 120 women in birth as a certified doula, and as a certified childbirth educator she has taught hundreds of couples in her popular yoga and birth workshops. In 2016 she was a featured presenter at the UVM Womens’ Health Conference with a workshop entitled “Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga – Benefits and Practice.” In the spring of 2018 she had the deep honor of training our local UVMMC labor and delivery staff in hands-on labor support. She received her initial 200 hour yoga teacher certification from OM Yoga in 2001. She is a Yoga Alliance Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher and has an advanced Level 3 certification in pregnancy and postpartum yoga from Colette Crawford of the Seattle Holistic Center. As a yoga teacher, she is deeply steeped in knowledge of body and breathwork and how to prepare women for the best birth possible in the weeks and months leading up to labor.
With a background in dance and 30 years of experience teaching movement to children, you can often find Susan humming a children’s song or singing a lullaby in a room full of babies. She is a trainer for Yoga 4 Classrooms where she works with educators to teach them tools to bring yoga into their classroom/school setting. Susan has taught in a variety of settings ranging from public school classrooms to after-school programs to yoga studios. She is a contributing author of the Burlington Vermont Flynn Center’s 2005 “Words Come Alive” teacher manual and in 2012 co-authored a children’s yoga book titled “Star Pose.” Susan is the proud mother of three yoga-loving boys – Emmett (14), Zinn (11) and Jay (5).
